• Makers Club

    Club Description:

    Co-facilitated by Mr. Sheridan & Mr. Jorgensen, Makers Club offers students access to the schools extensive resources and opportunities to design, create, showcase and compete. The primary focus of Makers Club is to promote self direction and creativity,however, members are also given several opportunities to compete and or showcase their work.

    This year we will be participating in the 2nd annual Interdistrict “Makers” Showcase that was a huge success last year. If they choose members who meet the requirements can also participate in Odyssey of the Mind, Junior Solar Sprints, Science Olympiad, and possibly other STEAM/Makers type that may present themselves.

    While competitions and showcases can be a lot of fun, the primary purpose of the makers club, is to provide students with the resources and support they need to create whatever they want. Currently students will be able to engage in audio/video recording and editing, digital photography, photoshop & graphic design, animation & stop motion, scratch programing, Lego robotics, Makey Makey, Pixton comic maker, 3D Design & printing, Woodworking, electronics, engineering, as well as anything in the Google suite (new technology and resources will be added based on interest and availability. Participants are encouraged to participate in multiple projects and challenges but at no point will all students be required to participate in any single project or challenge. In addition to choosing which projects and challenges they wish to participate in, Students will also be permitted join, leave and rejoin the club throughout the year as long as we have room for them. This is student centered discovery based learning at its finest!

    Some Logistics:

    1. Meets Wednesdays from 3:30-5pm

    2. Max participants is 30

    3. 25 slots will be available for open sign up each week, the remaining 5 slots will be determined on a case by case basis and must be approved by a facilitator (Sheridan or Jorgensen).

    4. The club is open to all grades, however, priority will be given to 7/8 graders and/or students engaged in an ongoing project.

    5. All potential participants must submit an application detailing potential projects and areas of interest.

    6. All participants will be required to sign a contract of conduct and commitment.

    7. Participants who are unproductive, disruptive or violate the contract or any school policies will be asked to leave. The duration of the ban will be determined on a case by case basis.

    8. Since students will not be forced to participate in any specific projects, showcases, or competitions at least 3 students must commit to any showcases or competitions for it to be viable.

    9. Additionally depending on the nature of the projects chosen, participants may not have access to all resources on any given day, as we can not utilize more than two locations at a time. For example if one group needs to video outside, and a second group, needs to work in the shop, software or projects on techlab computers would not be available until filming is complete.
